About Evan L Barrios

Hometown: Katy, TX

Clinical and Research Interests: Burn

What were you looking for in a residency program?

The two most important things to me when I interviewed were fit and fellowships. I wanted a program that would not close any doors regarding fellowship opportunities. UF matches graduates competitively around the country across sub-specialties, including Pediatric Surgery. Most importantly, I wanted to fit in with the program and other general surgery residents. I saw how well everyone got along during my interview dinner, and I spoke with a current resident after the interview process who completely sold me on UF!

What are the strengths of the UF program?

The camaraderie between the residents; research opportunities; friendly and approachable Attendings; Gainesville is a great place to raise a family; operative experience.

What do you like best about living in Gainesville? No traffic compared to big cities; housing is affordable

List of hobbies/interests: Spending time with my wife, two children, and dog; going to the multiple beaches that are within 2 hours of Gainesville
