UF Health transplantation surgeons work closely with a multidisciplinary transplant team, including medicine physicians, nurses, financial coordinators, donor coordinators, administrative support staff, social workers, physical and respiratory therapists and psychologists at the UF Health Shands Transplant Center.UF Health and UF Health Shands Hospital have been leaders in abdominal organ transplant in the state of Florida for decades. Our surgeons perform abdominal organ transplants for adults and children. We performed the first successful kidney transplant in Florida in 1966. Since then, UF Health physicians have performed transplants for more than 3,900 patients with end stage renal disease. We are also proud to have performed Florida’s first liver transplant in 1986 and are part of a transplant program that has celebrated many statewide and regional firsts throughout the years. Over the course of 50 years, UF Health Shands Transplant Center faculty and staff have performed more than 7,000 organ transplants. The team provides life-saving care for adult and pediatric patients receiving heart, lung, kidney, pancreas and liver transplants.
