The University of Florida Department of Surgery welcomes your application to the General Surgery Residency.

The program selects from among eligible applicants on the basis of job-related criteria such as their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communications, skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. The selection committee does not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or any other applicable legally protected status.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted electronically through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please contact your Student Affairs Office or go to www.aamc.org/eras for more information. You must also complete the Association of American Medical Colleges – National Residency Matching Program (AAMC-NRMP) application for residency. Go to www.nrmp.org for more information. Application materials will not be accepted via email or fax.
Applications are complete when the following information is received through ERAS:
- Common Application Form (CAF)
- Personal Statement
- Medical School Transcript
- Dean’s Letter
- Three Letters of Recommendation
- An official copy of your USMLE scores
In addition to the above, students and graduates of foreign medical schools must provide the following verifications:
- ECFMG Certification (Unless currently enrolled in medical school)
- J-1 Visa eligibility or
- United States residency status (permanent resident, naturalized citizen, etc)
- Proof of successful completion of USMLE step I, II, and III
In general, international applicants beyond three (3) years from medical school are unlikely to be granted an interview. We do not honor requests for expedited application review or review materials submitted outside of ERAS.
The Interview Process
The University of Florida General Surgery Residency Program will be conducting interviews on the below dates. As a competitive five-year clinical training program, with an additional expected two-year academic development period, we hope to showcase what Gainesville and our program has to offer. Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday mornings, with a pre-interview social the evening before.
Our interview dates are the following:
- November 5, 2024
- November 13, 2024
- December 4, 2024
- December 17, 2024
