Shaw was one of the first members of her department to take a dedicated maternity leave. Now a mother of two kids, ages 7 and 10, she and her peers are blueprints for those who follow, demonstrating not only possibility, but potential.
Shaw and other members will support the Academy’s programs and mission to advance the science and practice of surgical education.
“I’m hoping that as an academic physician, I can inspire other women, especially women of color, to pursue things they’re passionate about," UF surgical resident Dijoia Darden said.
