UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital
UNIT 4 EAST (4E)
The 4 EAST Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a 24-private bed inpatient unit for postoperative patients following moderate to complex surgical procedures ranging from, but not limited to, solid abdominal organ transplantation; ear, nose, throat (ENT); breast and reconstructive oncology; sarcomas; endocrine; pancreatic; biliary; minimally invasive gastroesophageal surgery; urological, gynecological, and colorectal surgery. 4E also houses liver failure patients to help optimize their treatment for potential future liver transplantation.
UNIT 4 WEST (4W)
The 4 West Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) is 24-private bed inpatient unit that houses all significant trauma, both operative and non-operative, as well as orthopedic surgery that requires more invasive monitoring and interventions. The unit administers care to traumatic brain injury patients and houses the emergency general surgery patients requiring intensive and intermediate level care. 4W can also treat any ICU patient in shock and has particular expertise with the identification and optimal care of septic patients.
UF Health Heart & Vascular and Neuromedicine Hospitals
The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CICU), is a 24-private bed inpatient unit for complex, invasive hemodynamic monitoring and treatment of adult patients during the critical phase of recovery from complex cardiac and thoracic surgery. In addition, state-of-the-art technology is employed to rectify cardiac pathophysiology, including ventricular assist devices (VADs), arterial-venous and venous-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy (IABP).
Unit 87, the Thoracic and Vascular ICU (TVICU), is a 24-private bed inpatient unit, caring for invasive thoracic (including esophageal and tracheal) and vascular surgery post-operative patients. This includes the complete care of lung transplantation patients. The unit acts as one of the University of Florida’s areas to treat acute respiratory distress syndrome, including optimizing the patient care with state-of-the art ventilation and ECMO.
