About Eittel E Oppenheimer

I have always enjoyed working with my hands and using my creativity to provide high-quality patient care. As an assistant professor within the University of Florida Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, I use the best of my abilities to develop new treatment strategies and provide higher-quality care for patients who require surgery. I have been in surgical practice for over a decade and my areas of main interest include surgical education, academic surgical practice, foregut surgery, bariatric surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and surgical simulation. Specifically, I am interested in treating patients who suffer from refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), offering medical and surgical treatments for morbid obesity and performing abdominal wall reconstruction for patients with ventral hernias.

My training began in Puerto Rico, where I was born and raised. I earned my bachelor’s degree in microbiologic studies and medical degree at Ponce Health Sciences Medical Campus. I completed my surgical residency at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. Following residency, I relocated to Miami to complete advanced minimally invasive surgery and robotics training at Jackson South Community Hospital.

One of the aspects I enjoy most about my practice is working as a team to take care of patients, both in and outside the operating room. I feel this gratification whether this involves leading a life-altering surgical intervention or blending in with members of a multidisciplinary care team to provide the best possible outcome for a patient. Engaging with others has allowed me to come up with ideas and ways that improve the outstanding, individualized patient-centered care we deliver every day.
