About Shawn D Larson

Hello, my name is Dr. Shawn Larson and I am an associate professor and interim chief of the division of pediatric surgery within the University of Florida College of Medicine department of surgery. I focus on all aspects of the field of pediatric surgery and have special interests in pediatric trauma, pediatric burn care, neonatal surgery and gastrointestinal surgery (including minimally invasive pediatric surgery). I also serve as the medical director for the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital Pediatric Trauma & Burn Program.

My research interests include gastrointestinal physiology and immunology focusing on necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), neonatal and pediatric response to sepsis, pediatric trauma and pediatric burn care.

I joined the UF College of Medicine in 2011, and completed my Pediatric Surgical fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University. I completed my general surgery residency at the University of South Florida, and a surgical research fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I earned my medical degree from the University of Sheffield School of Medicine in Sheffield, England and also have a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida.
