About Gary R Donath

I am an associate professor in the division of plastic surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine. My clinical interests include reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery.

I received my bachelor’s in biochemistry and medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. After achieving these degrees, I went on to pursue two residencies, one in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and another in plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, I completed a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at California Pacific Medical Center.

Upon completing my training, I practiced in California for over 25 years, and focused on aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction, skin cancer reconstruction and hand surgery. I returned to academics and teaching at Albany Medical Center in 2020. I am a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and am certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Additionally, I contributed to several research publications, attended seminars, and served as a consultant for the development of tissue expanders and biomaterials for breast reconstruction.

Teaching Profile

Teaching Philosophy
We are fortunate at UF/Shands to have the opportunity to educate the next generation of plastic surgeons. Our division is part of an exceptionally talented surgery department and we benefit from strong leadership and advocacy for patient care and resident training. Our residents and fellows are part of our team and are treated as colleagues. Teaching and learning are bi-directional and it is a privilege to be part of a great plastic surgery division.
