How to Apply

UFs PA Surgical Residency is currently accepting applications. Applications for a September 1, 2024 start will be accepted February 1, 2024 – April 30, 2024.

Prerequisites

To qualify for the Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program, eligible candidates must have:

  • Graduated from a ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.) accredited PA program prior to matriculation into the program.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or be eligible to sit for the PANCE prior to matriculation into the program.
  • PA License from the State of Florida (preferred) Board of Medicine prior to matriculation into the program.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application with all requested documentation
  • One-page personal statement focusing on why you are interested in pursuing a career as a surgical PA, why you are you interested in completing a PA residency/fellowship and/or why you are interested in joining the UF Physician Assistant Surgical Fellowship program.
  • Three professional recommendation letters, one of which MUST be from your current or former PA program director indicating confidence to complete program*.

* In the event that one is unable to obtain a recommendation letter from their current or former PA program director, they must either 1) obtain a separate letter from a program official confirming they are on track to successfully complete their respective PA program (if not graduated by time of application) or 2) obtain a separate letter from their respective General Surgery rotation preceptor dictating their respective rotation performance and completion.

Application Timeline

  • Length of Program: 12 months
  • Program Size: 4 PA Residents — 2 Cohorts per year
  • Fall 2025 Cohort:
    • Applications accepted: February 1, 2024 – April 30, 2024
    • Interview(s): April/May
    • Notification: May/June (within 30 days of final interview date)
    • Program Start: September 1, 2024
  • Spring 2026 Cohort
    • Applications accepted: July 1, 2024 – September 30, 2024
    • Interview(s): September/October
    • Notification: October/November(within 30 days of final interview date)
    • Program Start: March 1, 2025

Notification

All candidates will be notified in writing of the admission committee’s decision.

Candidates who have been interviewed are notified of the admission committee’s decision 30 days following the final interview date.

Candidates may confirm their place in the class by written acceptance sent directly to the Program Coordinator following admission notification.

Candidates who have been interviewed and not offered a position in the program will be ranked on an alternate list. The highest ranked candidate on the alternate list would be notified if an identified candidate withdrew from the program prior to their start date.
