Graduates of the University of Florida General Surgery Residency leave our program with the knowledge and skills to practice full scope general surgery in any setting. Robust didactic sessions, technical training, and personalized mentorship leaves residents competitive for fellowship placement in any surgical field and prepared to enter independent practice.
Most of our graduates (92%) pursue additional specialty training, though some of our graduates decide to transition directly into practice.
Whatever path you choose, the UF General Surgery program can provide you with the tools for success in general practice or subspecialty training.
Our residents are prepared for any area of sub-specialty training. While we strive to give residents the tools and opportunities they need to be competitive at any fellowship program, many of our residents choose to stay with our department for additional training. We offer fellowships in:
- Acute Care Surgery
- Pediatric Surgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Surgical Critical Care
- Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery
- Vascular Surgery
Residents are prepared for practice in any setting. Our research and early faculty development opportunities help residents prepare for success in academic practice, while our Practice Readiness Curriculum provides tools for success in the private practice sector.
Our long-standing training program has alumni practicing in almost every field and practice structure you can imagine! Whatever your career goals, the University of Florida has the tools to help you reach them.
