Leadership Curriculum

Our 18-month leadership curriculum series takes place in the fourth and fifth clinical years for general surgery residents.  Through a series of facilitated sessions, participants examine their experiences and develop skills to manage their behaviors and define their personal leadership style.  This curriculum engages residents in self-reflection, learning and discussions to explore topics that support their growth, both individually and as a cohort. Residents also receive mentoring and guidance from attendings in the department and the UF health system. Residents also receive feedback through the UF 360 Leader multisource assessment and create a leadership development plan to meet their needs and aspirations.

 Learning and discussion topics include:

  • Building Trust and Developing Emotional Intelligence
  • Communication for Leaders
  • Providing Feedback and Coaching
  • Supporting Accountability and Resolve
