Shaw was one of the first members of her department to take a dedicated maternity leave. Now a mother of two kids, ages 7 and 10, she and her peers are blueprints for those who follow, demonstrating not only possibility, but potential. 

A team of all-female physicians and scientists is leveraging personal experiences with underrepresentation in medicine to begin identifying a solution toward implicit bias in clinical research.

“I’m lucky to have had really great mentors who really championed me, and I’d like to do the same,” Johnson-Mann said.
