The Department of Surgery was pleased to host its annual Research Day event last month, celebrating the amazing breadth and depth of research being done in the department by students, trainees and faculty.
Abstract and quickshot presentations took place in two concurrent sessions on the first day of events, with nearly 80 presentations in total. These sessions were moderated by associate professor Zhihua Jiang, M.D., and assistant professor Sergio Duarte, Ph.D.
The second day was kicked off with a well-attended grand rounds presentation by visiting professor Genevieve Melton-Meaux, M.D., Ph.D. Melton-Meaux, the McKnight Presential Endowed Professor Surgery and senior associate dean for Health Informatics and Data Science at the University of Minnesota. Her talk drew on her expertise in health informatics and was titled “Advancing Surgical Care with Learning Health Systems.”
Immediately following grand rounds, professor Ashish Sharma, M.D., Ph.D., moderated the final plenary session featuring 12 more abstracts.
