Janice Taylor smiling while holding a clear glass award plaque in both hands. Behind her is a large presentation screen with a blue background and pink accents displaying the title “PHILIP J. WOLFSON OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD.” The slide lists her roles: Professor of Surgery, Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program Director and General Surgery Residency Associate Program Director at the University of Florida. On the right side of the slide is a professional portrait of Taylor wearing a white medical coat.

Congratulations to Janice Taylor, M.D., M.Ed., on receiving the Philip J. Wolfson Outstanding Teacher Award from the Association for Surgical Education!

Taylor, a professor of surgery, received the award at last week’s annual meeting of the association in Atlanta, GA. The award recognizes faculty who play an active role in surgical education and are regarded as exceptional educators by colleagues and learners. Candidates must demonstrate strong teaching practices, innovation, mentorship and documented evidence of educational impact.

“Serving as an educator to students, residents and fellows is immense fun and also a great responsibility,” said Taylor, who is the program director of the department’s pediatric surgery fellowship and associate program director of the general surgery residency. “This recognition is quite humbling.”
