The Department of Surgery is excited to congratulate Alex Yoon, Ph.D., MPH, an assistant professor in the Division of Population Health Sciences, on being awarded a grant from the Southeastern Conference, or SEC, Faculty Travel Program.

Established in 2012, the program aims to foster relationships that stimulate collaboration among SEC member universities relative to exchanging ideas, developing grant proposals, presenting lectures and conducting research.

Yoon will visit Vanderbilt University, where he will have the opportunity to work with experts at the Vanderbilt Epidemiology Center’s leading-edge cancer research program, enhancing his expertise and ongoing collaborations between the two institutions.

Amalia Cochrane, M.D., a professor of surgery and vice chair of professional development in the UF Department of Surgery, said this grant speaks to Yoon’s professionalism and potential.

“This is wonderful recognition for him as an early-career researcher who is highly engaged in the life of the university and the Department of Surgery,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for him to continue to build important research collaborations that stand to benefit the department, the UF Health Cancer Center and his own career development.”
