Hometown: With my father in the Air Force, we frequently moved across the country. I graduated high school in Great Falls, MT but Gainesville has become my new hometown.
Clinical Interests: Surgical Oncology, specifically as it relates to cancer health disparities and the oral and pancreatic microbiome.
What were you looking for in a residency program? I really wanted a place where the residents supported one another and I knew that was the case at the University of Florida. Regardless of which residency program I chose, I knew I would be putting in long hours so it was really important to me to have a close knit support system. Gainesville also has the added bonus of affordable living and housing, which is really important during this time in life!
What are the strengths of the UF program? Hands down, the people. The residents, faculty and staff are extremely supportive and will go out of their way to help you accomplish your goals. We also have a great time together along the way. Additionally, it is particularly helpful to interact with faculty that are nationally and internationally renowned within their fields. This has helped open a number of opportunities for fellowship opportunities.
What do you like best about living in Gainesville? Definitely the weather. There really is something to be said for being able to eat lunch out on the sunny hospital terrace in the middle of January (and not having to scrape the snow off of your car!). Gainesville itself is a wonderful place to live because there are a number of fun things to do and unique places to eat. It’s also only a short drive to the beach or theme parks if you are looking for more adventure.
List of hobbies/interests: I love hanging out with my two fur children Murphy and Cooper (and my husband Patrick too). I enjoy playing golf and trying to keep my garden alive.
