The department of surgery’s Research Day will take place on Friday, April 20. This year’s Lester R. Dragstedt Visiting Professor will be Ronald V. Maier, M.D. Maier is the Jane and Donald D. Trunkey Professor and Vice Chair of Surgery at the University of Washington and Surgeon-in-Chief at Harborview Medical Center, in Seattle.
As in past years, the day will recognize the research accomplishments of the past year. The abstract submission deadline is Friday, March 23r at 6 p.m., and abstracts must be submitted electronically to email@example.com, using the official abstract form. Remember, presentations at Research Day 2012 partially fulfill the research requirement for house staff.
In addition, the department will continue its annual Research Career Development Program, where $25,000 awards are given to junior faculty (up to and including Associate Professor) for highly meritorious research projects. Importantly, this year, ONE AWARD will be given to support research programs that directly utilize the Department of Surgery research database (see Dr. Darwin Ang). The deadline for applications is also Friday, March 23r and applications must be submitted using the attached official application form.
Research in the department has grown exponentially in the past five years, and this is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the celebration.
