Message from the president: Juan Cendan, M.D.
It was a pleasure to see so many of you at this year’s sellout Fall Woodward Society Meeting and Copeland Dinner in Washington, DC. It was truly a wonderful gathering that highlighted the camaraderie piece of the Woodward Surgical Society. Counselors elected at the meeting were Elizabeth A. Beierle, MD, ’96 and Robert Winfield, MD ’11 to serve three year terms; 2016-2019. Jason Wilson, MD ’09 will serve as President Elect and will replace Tony McDonald as Secretary Treasurer. Tony McDonald’s term as Secretary Treasurer was extended for an additional year. Please join me in thanking all of them for their service.
Your ongoing support has kept the Woodward Society on sound financial footing. With this in mind, we again will be reimbursing up to $500 of loupe purchases for rising third-year clinical residents. As you know, this is a substantial expense for financially-strapped residents, who enthusiastically and gratefully accept our assistance. If you have not already done so by the time this reaches you, I strongly encourage you to pay your dues. Dues remain at $150 and in addition to the assistance mentioned above, they support Woodward Society gatherings throughout the year. I hope you will also consider making an additional gift to the UF Department of Surgery in celebration of our 60th Anniversary in 2017.
Please mark your calendar for February 16-17, 2017 for the 8th Annual Woodward Society Spring Meeting and 60th Anniversary of the UF Department of Surgery. Registration will open in early December. You can find more information at www.surgery.ufl.edu/DOS60. I encourage you all to attend as we celebrate Department’s Legacy of Lifesaving, Education and Research with three events in Gainesville:
